Generator Maintenance Across Gauteng
Generator maintenance is the ongoing programme: a schedule, records and checks while the supply is still on. One oil-and-filter booking belongs on the generator servicing page. A set that has already failed belongs on generator repairs.
- A schedule, not a one-off visit
- Records of what was found
- Checks while the supply is still on
- Faults quoted before extra work

The Service
Preventative generator maintenance, not a one-off service
Generator maintenance is preventative, ongoing care — a recurring programme for standby sets that must stay reliable. It is not the same as a one-off service booking. A single oil-and-filter visit belongs on the servicing page. This page is for businesses, facilities and estates that want planned inspections, a service schedule, and faults caught before a breakdown.
Plans are built around the machine and how it is used. We set a schedule, keep the dates, and record what was found. Commercial standby generators and sites that cannot afford a failed start during loadshedding are the usual fit.
Visits include routine testing and inspection, not only consumables. Controllers, cooling, batteries and transfer behaviour are checked so a developing fault is visible while the grid is still up.
When something fails between planned visits, contract clients are scheduled first. Preferred rates on labour may apply; we confirm that when we quote the plan. A same-day slot is still offered only when one is open.
A maintenance contract is a separate written agreement. Either party may cancel it with 30 days’ written notice, and work already done stays payable. The agreement does not promise a response time or that the generator will be available.

The Distinction
Servicing is a visit. Maintenance is a programme.
Servicing
One booked service visit: inspect and service the items that machine needs that day.
Maintenance
An ongoing programme: recurring inspections, a planned schedule, records and routine testing.
Who it suits
Commercial standby, facilities and estates that need the set ready without chasing dates.
What You Get
What a maintenance programme covers
01
A schedule for this set
Intervals follow running hours, calendar time and how the generator is used. The manufacturer schedule leads. A universal month is not invented here.
02
Planned visits first
Contract clients are booked on the agreed dates. A breakdown between visits is arranged when a slot is open. Arrival is not guaranteed for a particular hour.
03
Rates confirmed on the quote
Preferred labour rates may apply on a plan. That is confirmed when the plan is quoted. It is not a published discount.
04
Notes from each visit
What was checked and what was found is recorded for that generator. Insurer paperwork is only provided when that was part of the agreed visit.
05
Faults named before parts
A developing leak, a weak battery or a controller alarm is explained on the visit. Parts are not changed because the inspection happened.
06
Matched to the machine
The plan follows the fuel, the duty and the hours. A portable petrol set and a commercial standby diesel are not given the same list.

Common Questions
Generator maintenance — questions
What is generator maintenance?
Ongoing preventative care on a schedule: inspections, records and checks while the set is still ready. It is not one oil-and-filter booking. That single visit is servicing.
Does a standby generator need maintenance if it rarely runs?
Yes. Hours can be low while the battery is flat and the fuel has gone stale. A plan is built around time as well as hours. A single interval for every brand is not invented here.
How is a maintenance schedule set?
From running hours, calendar time and how the set is used, led by the manufacturer schedule for that engine. The short “how often” answer sits on the service-frequency guide.
Do you test the set during a maintenance visit?
Yes. A controlled start and an output check are part of the visit when the site can accept them. An idle of a few minutes is not treated as a load test.
Can maintenance include the ATS?
Where an ATS is fitted, its alarms and whether it is being asked to transfer are noted. The building is not switched unless that test is agreed.
Is maintenance the same as a breakdown repair?
No. Maintenance is booked while the set still runs. A breakdown visit starts from the fault in front of the technician. The two can be combined if a fault is found during the visit.
Still unsure what the fault is? Call or WhatsApp 082 057 4605 for onsite diagnosis.
