Common questions
What generator problems do you repair?
ProService Generator Repairs repairs starting faults, fuel faults, cooling shutdowns, controller alarms, transfer problems and sets that run but produce no power. Diesel, petrol and supported gas machines are booked as separate visits. The symptom decides which tests come first.
Do you provide onsite generator repairs?
Yes. Most diagnosis, servicing and repair is done at the generator in Gauteng. Alternator rewinding and some major engine work cannot be finished inside a canopy, and that is said before the set is moved.
Do you repair both diesel and petrol generators?
Yes. Diesel standby and commercial sets, and petrol portable and home sets, are both repaired. The fuel changes the tests. Diesel work is on the diesel generator repairs page. Petrol work is on the petrol generator repairs page.
What is included in a generator service?
A service covers the items that machine needs. Often that is oil, filters, coolant, the battery, belts where fitted, a fuel-system look and a controller check. Not every generator uses every part. The set is run afterwards and anything that should be watched is written down.
How often should a generator be serviced?
Follow the manufacturer schedule for that model. Standby sets that sit between outages still need servicing, often at least on a yearly look plus sooner when hours are high. A single hour figure is not invented here. Generator servicing is booked from the plate and the hours.
Why will my generator not start?
A generator may not start because of the battery, fuel, a low-oil shutdown, an emergency stop or a controller that is not issuing a start. A silent set and a set that cranks are different jobs. See generator not starting.
Why is my generator running but producing no power?
If the engine is running and there is still no power, the fault is usually electrical: a breaker, the AVR, excitation, wiring or the alternator. Output is measured before the alternator is condemned. See generator not producing power.
Where does ProService Generator Repairs provide generator repairs?
Callouts are arranged across Gauteng. The main areas are Johannesburg, Pretoria, Sandton, Centurion, Midrand, the East Rand, Randburg, the West Rand and the Vaal. Suburb pages sit under those regions.
What information should I provide when booking a generator repair?
Your suburb, the brand, diesel or petrol or gas, the kVA if you know it, and what happens when start is pressed. Unknown fields can be left blank. Call or WhatsApp 082 057 4605, or use the contact form.
Do repairs come with a warranty?
Workmanship is warranted for 90 days from completion, as set out in the terms. A fault directly related to the work is inspected again in that period. Parts follow the supplier warranty where one applies. Misuse, unrelated faults and wear are not covered.
