Diesel maintenance
This is a general maintenance guide for diesel generator sets. It is not a manufacturer instruction, and it is not the same list as a petrol service. Diesel maintenance is about fuel that can hold water and dirt, a battery that must crank a compression engine, and a cooling system that has to survive loaded running. Daily checks below are what an operator can look at. They are not a repair procedure.

Readiness, not only an oil change
Before a run, look for leaks, check fuel, oil and coolant levels, and read any alarm already on the controller. Those are observations. They do not include opening a hot radiator or bridging a shutdown.
Periodic work adds oil and filters, the water separator where the engine has one, air filter, belts, hoses, battery, charger and terminals. Fuel condition matters more on diesel than on many petrol sets: water, dirt and aged diesel block filters and upset injectors.
Voltage, frequency and how the set behaves under load are the output checks. A load bank test is booked when a start in the plant room is not enough to prove capacity. Intervals for all of this are explained on the service intervals page, and they still come from the engine schedule.

Diesel-specific attention
Water, dirt and microbial growth show up as blocked filters, hard starting and smoke. The tank and the separator are part of maintenance, not only the spin-on filter.
A set that cranks and starves, or that smokes and runs rough, is noted. Those symptoms are diagnosed. They are not adjusted with an injection calibration during a checklist visit.
Alarms, service hours and whether the set is left in automatic. An ATS test belongs on a standby set that has one, done as a controlled check.
Voltage and frequency at run, and load behaviour if the site can apply load safely. A no-load idle does not prove a diesel that must carry a building.
Operator checks are visual and level checks. Filter changes, electrical tests and anything under the cooling cap are for the service visit.

Common Questions
The general list covers diesel and petrol service scope. This list stays on diesel fuel, water separation, and the way a diesel standby set is kept ready.
No. It is a general guide. Intervals and capacities come from that engine’s schedule.
Levels, obvious leaks and whether an alarm is already showing, with the engine stopped. Not the cooling cap when it is hot, and not the fuel-injection system.
Some items are before a run. Others follow the hour or calendar interval for that engine. There is no single diesel interval on this page.
Where a separator is fitted, water is part of maintenance. How it is drained depends on that separator. It is not a reason to open high-pressure lines.
No. Rough running or smoke is reported and diagnosed. Injector work is a separate decision.
It is used when you need to know the set can carry a defined load. It is not bundled into every oil change.
The hour reading, the date, and any alarm. Those three make the next interval meaningful.

Service Areas
Technicians travel to the generator. These are the main Gauteng areas. Suburb pages sit under each region.
ProService Generator Repairs confirms an onsite visit from these details. Send what you have. A missing model number does not stop the booking.
